Casa dell’Energia AI Assistant
The building “Casa dell’Energia” is a flagship of the “Levi-Ponti” High School in Mirano, district of Venice. Born from an initiative of Levi-Ponti’s students, the building has very low environmental impact and embodies the best technologies, a true model of sustainable construction! “Casa dell’Energia” is also an educational-training laboratory, aimed at both students and companies, within which it is possible to study the charateristics of cutting-edge systems and analyze the performances of modern insulating materials. Everything that happens inside the building is measured and available on the apposite web platform, check out Levi-Ponti’s website. Dozens of sensors continuously share data about the systems and this represents a valuable support for teaching and research!
The “Casa dell’Energia AI Assistant” mobile app is built with the very precious support and collaboration of students and teachers of Levi-Ponti High School, its development has been an opportunity to deeply study the concepts behind the building and to introduce the AI topic.
The application runs an advanced Deep-learning model for image classification and is able to recognize relevant object inside “Casa dell’Energia” simply by framing them. The model is trained on over thirty thousands images taken on site! When an object is recognized a popup appears, click on it to enter the description! Descriptions can be also accessed by using the navigation menu on the left.
The application remembers your past visits and can list all the items you still did’t visit, enjoy this feature for a scavenger-hunt-like experience!
The description pages of items aim is to introduce inexperienced readers to the issues of sustainable development and explain, in a simple way, how systems inside “Casa dell’Energia” work, what benefit they offer and how the underlying principles can be applied in other scenarios.
All descriptions can be read automatically by cutting-edge text-to-speech engines provided by Google and Apple. The application user-interface dynamically follows the flow of the text while it’s read and the whole thing is multilingual. This represents a huge technological advancement compared to standard audio guides.
The app also supports “Dark mode” to reduce eye strain and represents an example of fully-fledged production-grade product that includes a groundbreaking AI engine.
